Anna R. Louban works in the disciplinary intersection of sociology and ethnology. As a research assistant at FÖPS, her work focuses on the background and manifestations of so-called deepfakes in the context of police and judicial work as part of the “Video Analysis Using Artificial Intelligence to Detect False and Manipulated Identities” (FAKE-ID) project. Louban’s work is particularly interested in the practices of detecting and categorising manipulated and/or falsified electronic image and video material in various private sector and official contexts.
Her work to date has focused on bureaucracy and migration studies, as well as the anthropology of the state and the ethnology of law. She is completing her doctorate at the University of Konstanz, where her research focuses on the practices of German migration bureaucracy.
